Let me first say I've got alot of friends in Florence County that are great Republicans and work hard for the cause each and every day. I understand their wish for a congressional district that represents them.

The problem however is this.

First, of those voting straight ticket in the 2010 General Election, Republican voters accounted for just 38.5% of the votes in Florence County. That compared to 58.5% straight ticket Democrat votes in the same county.

In Beaufort County, 54% voted straight ticket for the Republicans while just 41% voted Democrat.

Also in Florence County, Vincent Sheheen garnered more votes than Nikki Haley in the race for Governor (51% - 47%) while Jim Clyburn did fall by 7% points to Jim Pratt, a small part of Florence County overwhelmingly selected Spratt over Mulvaney by 15% points, basically negating the Clyburn race. Rosemary Parham, a GOP favorite in the Pee Dee, lost by 10% points to Ed Clements (D) in the race for 12th Circuit Solicitor.

If that's not enough, lets take a gander and the driving force from the South Carolina State House pushing for the 7th District to be centered in the Pee Dee. Alan Clemmons has repeatedly shown that he's no different than the other RINOs like Lindsey Graham, Hugh Leatherman, Luke Rankin and other RINO Caucus members and would most assuredly act the same was as a member of the US Congress. Why elect someone we're going to immediately want to push out after seeing he votes in Washington much like he did in South Carolina?

All this talk of "A Democrat Plan" from those wanting the GOP in the Pee Dee to have Congressional representation is nothing but hogwash designed to disguise their personal needs and ignore the needs of the entire state. Electing Alan Clemmons to the US House would be an insult to Tim Scott, Jeff Duncan, Trey Gowdy and Mick Mulvaney as he's most definitely a Horse of a different color and bound to do more harm than good catering to Lindsey Graham as a member of Congress.

Someone from the Pee Dee told me recently that Alan Clemmons didn't draw the House plan for the 7th district. Has Clemmons really got that many people in that area fooled into thinking he's the answer?

What make anyone think that Clemmons would be the chosen representative for the 7th. district. The Republican Party has many new
Tea Party members, the voting records are being closely monitored. RINO's are in serious trouble in any up coming election. There are people outside of Horry
County prepared to work with boots on the ground to unseat the DONKEYS IN ELEPHANT CLOTHING.

as usual blogger blogging with out facts. The Redistricting is based on numbers, growth and spreading voting equality and similarities demographic dependencies. Rep. Clemmons has not made any secret of his ambition to run for the Congressional seat, but he is not fighting only for his personal interest. He realizes the historical and economical values of the Pee Dee, and his fight is one which involves the future of the Pee Dee. If the Pee Dee is awarded the 7th district and should Rep. Clemmons be elected, then so be it. He will have stiff competition. Senator Davis should realize that all the other elected officials in Horry County are 100% behind the approved House plan. This isn’t just a Clemmons fight and should not be referenced as that. You are vastly overlooking the needs of the Pee Dee and its people.
Let’s review some other facts which will reflect that the senate plan does not support the best interest of the citizens of South Carolina.
1. Horry County is the largest County in South Carolina. In fact, it is the largest county east of the Mississippi.
2. Horry County experienced the largest growth in population in the state this past decade. Specifically, the population in Horry County increased 72,631. Now compare it to Beaufort’s growth, 41,285, and Charleston County’s growth, 40,110. Horry County, by the numbers, was the biggest contributor in the overall state’s population growth of just over 600,000, which resulted in South Carolina being awarded the 7th Congressional seat.
3. It has been well documented that Horry, Georgetown and the Pee Dee have severe infrastructure needs, i.e., roads, Georgetown port, etc. As a result, businesses have located in other areas of the state which have infrastructures which will support their operations efficiently, i.e., new Boeing plant in Charleston, the BMW plant in Greenville.
4. As a result of being unable to draw businesses into Horry, Georgetown and Pee Dee, the area has experienced severe unemployment (as of May 2011), i.e., Horry/Myrtle Beach (10.4%), Georgetown (10.7%), Florence (11%), Darlington (12.1%), Dillon (14.7%), Marion (19%). Now let’s look at Beaufort (8.5%), Charleston (8.5%) and Greenville (8.5%).5. Because of the inability to attract high paying jobs the medium income (2009) can range as low as $28,437 (Marion), $28,653 (Dillon) up to $41,163 (Horry/Myrtle Beach). Now compare Beaufort’s medium income of $49, 609, a full 20% higher than the highest medium income county in the approved House version, Horry/Myrtle Beach.
Senator Davis mentions that a consultant was hired, Morgan, to draw a congressional plan based on reflecting South Carolina’s communities of interest to support his and Senator Grooms’, and a band of very happy democrat’s position. Does the senator realize that there is probably x-amount of expert consultants who would reject Morgan’s position?
It is obvious that a certain amount of Republican senators disagree with Senator Davis and Grooms, including Senator McConnell. The senate plan, in effect, steals away the 7th Congressional seat which the Pee Dee deserves and needs. Unfortunately, we are witness to another example where some elected Republican officials will place their own self-interest in front of God, Family and Country, and why we are in such a sorry state of affairs in our Country. This is not about Alan Clemmons. This is about the people whose needs are not being met. The people of the Pee Dee need the 7th District for economical reasons and it would be the best plan for the state. Our growth has been tremendous, but our unemployment is the highest in the state, and the Grand Strand sends some of the highest amounts of money to the State, but we don't get it back in infrastructure improvements. What would this state do without our tourist dollars? Why do these dollars end up in the coffers of the 1st District when Charleston can stand on it's own. Look at the facts and the figures. Our people need our own representation and don't insult us by saying it's all about Clemmons.
