Herman Cain sexual harassment accuser breaks silence at Gloria Allred press conference
Sharon Bialek is the first woman to be the face of the harassment scandal

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

Herman Cain won’t be getting “back on message” anytime soon.

Sharon Bialek, a fourth woman accusing Cain of sexual harassment, went public on Monday in a press conference with celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred.

Bialek, a mother of three that Allred introduced as a registered Republican, revealed her encounter with the Republican candidate in 1997 in which she says he crossed the line when she asked him for help getting a job after being let go from the National Restaurant Association's educational foundation.

It looks as though GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain has a lot worse accusations to defend himself against now.  According to the accuser, Sharon Bialek who was represented by celebrity attorney Gloria Allred, Cain assaulted her in his car in 1997 by reaching under her dress for her genitalia and pulling her head down towards his lap.  When she objected to the sudden and unasked for actions, Cain is alleged to have asked her, "You want a job, right?"

One reporter noted to Allred that the actions by Cain as described by Bialek sounded like sexual assault.  Allred stated that there were no plans to bring a lawsuit and Bialek stated that she just wanted to give a "voice and a face" to other women who have been similarly assaulted by Cain.  She also called on Cain to admit what he did.

Cain has a lot more problems than these recent allegations.  His arrogance in dealing with reporters and protesters is suggestive of someone with the capability of doing what he's been accused of and has to to be disconcerting to his supporters. In one interview after the first accusations, he very clearly telegraphed his expectation of more accusations to come.  They are indeed coming and sounding credible.  The number of accusers suggests more than just a "media plot," as Rush Limbaugh has suggested, to bring down the GOP presidential candidate who has recently been in first or second place in a number of polls since the spectacular rise and fall of Rick Perry.

This process, while it is brutal, is necessary to determine who the best candidate for president would be.  The odds of a candidate with such baggage getting elected in a contest against Barack Obama would not be good.  Obama is loaded for bear with hundreds of millions of dollars at his disposal.  All those dollars would be aimed at getting out his base.  The base for Cain as a potential nominee running against Obama would not be as excited if finding out much later that Cain has a record of multiple instances of sexual assault or harassment.  In presidential elections, it typically comes down to which candidate can get his base motivated to go to the polls.  The GOP needs the strongest possible candidate.  If Cain is eliminated due to his history of misbehavior, it won't hurt the party's chances of winning the presidency.
