SC Senator Jake Knotts spends his spare time drinking with his buddies in bars.  In stark contrast, his opponent in the upcoming 2012 GOP primary, Katrina Shealy, works a real job during the week and spends her spare time in many charitable activities such as the one mentioned in the Columbia Star article below:

The Friends of Juvenile Justice (FJJ) is excited to be one of two Midlands non-profit organizations to benefit from funds raised during the recent Palmetto Half Marathon. On Tuesday, May 24, Katrina Shealy, FJJ’s incoming chairman, accepted a $10,000 check from Phillip Gerald and Ken Calcutt of the Palmetto Half Marathon.

The funds will enable FJJ to assist in funding programs for at-risk boys and girls who promote building stronger educational foundations, self- esteem and character for future success. Three programs that are part of the Department of Juvenile Justice’s (DJJ) Teen Afterschool Center program and a DJJ employability program, all which are primarily supported by FJJ, will share the $10,000.

The centers are in Columbia at the St. Paul Development Center at St. Paul AME Church, the Community C.M.E. TASC ( Ebenezer Lutheran Church), Friends of Juvenile Justice HOPE After School Program, and the Broad River Road employability training program.

“We could never be more grateful than we are now to have received funding from the Palmetto Half Marathon. To have been chosen as one of two recipients for funding, speaks for the work we do on behalf of at-risk children in South Carolina,” Katrina Shealy said.
