This is clever bit of propaganda (< note the Amazon.com web services page on which the image in the link is hosted) was sent out in an email from the South Carolina Senate Republican Caucus attempting to propagate the same lies Senator Ronnie Cromer and Rep. Kenny Bingham were pushing on the county GOP members at a meeting last year in Lexington and that has been released in various forms two or three times already by those attempting to cover their severe failings in office.

Notice the statement reading "2nd lowest
state taxes in the nation." They did NOT state "2nd lowest state tax RATES" because we've got some of the highest tax rates and some of the highest spending by government per capita in the country.  Which of course means these statehouse crooks are lying through their d----d teeth trying to paint a picture different from reality for the voters.  But then, what do you expect from a bunch of Clintonesque lawyers parsing their words as cleverly as arguing over what the definition of "is" is?

They also didn't discuss how businesses who aren't specifically lured here with fascist tax incentives and massive taxpayer funded giveaways have to get raked over the coals to pay for it all either.

The author is referring to "taxes" in this ranking as in "taxes actually collected" from individuals.  South Carolina is hurting so bad now that, despite the high tax RATES, the taxes COLLECTED are extremely low due to widespread unemployment and underemployment, huge decreases in property values and huge increases in foreclosures. The crooks in the SC Senate like Jake Knotts, Ronnie Cromer, Glenn McConnell,
Nikki Setzler (who just happens to be a Democrat--not that it makes much difference in this state) and others are not working at doing anything but lining their own pockets. They're lying about how things are here in order to help the fascist crooks get re-elected. It's all about their maintaining power and living the good life at OUR expense.

The Bloomberg article from which this is taken looks at fiscal quality of South Carolina life c. 2009--a year after the crash of 2008 in which very few escaped suffering in the widespread economic downturn and before the rates increased in order to collect even more money from an increasingly impoverished populace.  Inexplicably, the author takes simplistic and misleading statistics as if they were accurate indicators of what it would cost someone to live here.  He doesn't discuss how much it really costs to live here--especially if you make a lot of money and own a nice house.  Just because the citizens in an economically depressed state with widespread unemployment, high crime and welfare rates don't have as much money, even with high tax rates, to turn over to the government, doesn't mean that this is some sort of paradise to which people should move or they may wind up paying a huge chunk of our government-induced bills.

I can tell you that several years ago, a company I worked for relocated almost all of their operations to Tn due in part to more favorable tax rates.
