South Carolina Politics

If you have been around awhile or at least home in the middle of the afternoon, you've likely heard Dr. Phil mention the term “lying by omission”.

It’s easy enough to figure out.  Say you ran up $10,000 dollars on your credit card and didn’t inform your spouse.  When you withhold certain truths it’s the same thing as lying.  Eventually the “you-know-what” is going to hit the fan.

However, neither the current administration nor the Department of Justice would view this the same way.   It’s not lying by omission to them, it’s “they can’t recall.”

Last Friday, a document was sent to Congress concerning the Fast and Furious investigation stating that Eric Holder’s deputy chief of staff at the Department of Justice was informed the very day that U.S. border Patrol Agent Brian Terry’s murder occurred.  The document also states that the weapon used to gun down the Border Patrol agent was traced back to Operation Fast and Furious.

Emails sent to Holder’s then-deputy chief of staff Monty Wilkinson show that Holder was informed of the Border Agents death.  But it is unclear as to whether Holder was informed that the weapons used in the murder were from that of the undercover operation.

The Daily Caller is reporting they contacted DOJ spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler.  However, Schmaler would not verify nor deny of whether Wilkinson told Holder they had provided the weapons in the Murder of Agent Brian Terry.

That’s the spin.  Here’s the truth. Of course he knew.  It’s a game of dodge ball at this point.  It’s all about what can be proven, not what actually occurred.  Congress is throwing as many balls at Holders head as they can.  But Obama stands in front and bats each away.  Plus, it would take some sort of character for Holder to stand up and take responsibility for that which he oversees. I am still astounded that even if Holder knew or didn’t know, it was HIS Department of Justice that ran this heinous operation.  How in the hell has he kept his job?

Let’s just say for argument’s sake you were an accomplice to a murder.  Let’s suggest that you provided the illegal weapon used to kill another human being. If this is true then two things need to happen.  Firstly, I hope you are reading this article from your prison library.  And secondly, you better have been prosecuted to the full extent of the law.  If the gun was absolutely positively traced back to you, even if you deny it, you should go to prison.  Or at a bare minimum, in this case, at least lose your freaking job!

I’m turning the acronym for the DOJ, to being “dirty omissions of Justice” The biggest crime in this, aside from the deaths of so many, not only now, but well into the future, is the fact this administration has allowed Holder to remain in his position for even one minute longer.  It’s not only an insult to the Terry family; it’s an insult to the American people.

Friends of South Carolina!

Below is an excellent opportunity to hear a real Constitutionalists Law Enforcement officers speak.  Notify any law enforcement that you know so that they can attend.  They can receive CLE hours for attendance.  This is a great educational opportunity no matter what your political leanings might be.  I hope you will take advantage of this great opportunity!

Best regards,

Sheriff Richard Mack's Seminar on the Constitution and the Role of Civil Government and Law Enforcement

Richard Mack - the man who, as sheriff of a rural Arizona county, fought the Brady Bill gun-control law all the way to the Supreme Court and won!

Mack gives us an insider's glimpse into the pervasive forces that are relentlessly driving America towards a police state.  In almost confessional style, he recounts how he came to realize, while working as a beat cop, how wrong the all-too-common orientation of police officers is when they think of their job as being "to write tickets and arrest people."

Richard Mack tells of his personal transformation from performing "by-the-numbers" to becoming a Constitution-conscious defender of citizens' rights.

Sheriff Mack's latest book covers decades of research to prove once and for all that the sheriff in each county is indeed the ultimate law authority in their jurisdiction.

The sheriff absolutely has the power and responsibility to defend his citizens against all enemies, including those from our own Federal Government.

History, case law, and common law all show clear evidence and common sense that the sheriff is the people's protector in all issues of injustice and is responsible for keeping the peace in all matters. He is the last line of defense for his constituents; he is America's last hope to regain our forgotten freedom.

I have a suggestion for Lexington County Council members who have been complaining about the lack of taxpayer attendance at County Council meetings.  Have your meetings on SATURDAY when more  people can attend instead of Tuesday when only the retired, independently wealthy, & unemployed can attend!  At the rate they spend money, Council ought to be glad that most Lexington county residents have jobs, so that they can continue to spend in the manner to which they've become accustomed instead of castigating the working class for not attending their Tuesday meetings.  Instead they complain about the lack of participation as they spend more of our hard earned dollars.  This, of course, means that the average Lexington County Joe has to work more hours to eat, to buy gas, and to pay bills.  This, also, means they have less time to attend those weekday County Council meetings.  Hmmmm.

Speaking of spending, Lexington County Council now wants to spend $8,000,000 more dollars on an “economic development” package in Chapin.  Its just been lying around in the bank & they want to spend it on something.  Now before you get some common sense idea like using the money to pay down debt or giving a tax rebate, that money has been “earmarked” for economic development.  So naturally, it needs to go to Chapin.  Now I don't know how everybody outside of Chapin feels about their hard earned tax dollars going to Chapin, but I'm not happy about it.    Aren't there any other areas of Lexington County that need to be developed?  How about an equal split?  How does Johnny Jeffcoat's district get 8 mil?  I guess when you're an Economic & Community Catalyst for the Town of Lexington AND a county council member, your district just gets certain perks.  Maybe all of the County Councilmen ought to work for the Town & the rest of us can get a piece of the taxpayer pie, too.

Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom recently gave a rousing speech educating those at the Aiken Republican Club on many of the issues that South Carolinians face with regards to the state budget and the economic outlook for the future.  I was disturbed to hear during Comptroller General Eckstrom’s address that the state continues to have major issues with regards to unfunded liabilities in the state retirement plan that currently exceed $13 billion.

Equally as disturbing was a recent article by Rick Brundrett, investigative reporter for the South Carolina Policy Council.  According to Mr. Brundrett’s research, our state legislators earn an average of $19, 605 in gross retirement benefits per year.   He cites the July figures from the state retirement system as his source.  From the same source Mr. Brundrett was able to determine that the total paid in benefits for all retired legislators annually is $6.5 million.  The amount paid since the plans inception in 1966 is $89 million.

The amazing thing here is that the annual paid per year to retired legislators is more than the average amount paid to retired teachers and police officers.  Interestingly, being a legislator is a part time job with the legislature meeting 3 days a week from January to June.  This design was to ensure that legislators could remain gainfully employed while serving.  In other words, being a legislator is not supposed to be a full time job or a career.

This begs the question, how does this happen? How do part-time legislators earn more in retirement than full-time state employees?  The answer is actually quite simple.  It happens when politicians are allowed to vote themselves benefits and salary increases. This is unacceptable.

Currently 9 states no longer offer retirement benefits to legislators.  Rhode Island is one of the 9 states and also has a January to June legislative session.

The unfunded liabilities for the State of South Carolina should be of major concern to all South Carolinians. If the General Assembly continues to fail to fund the state retirement plan realistically, then a $13 billion unfunded liability with a 30 year shortfall is expected.  Our legislators have only added to the problem with their own increasing retirement benefits rather than working to solve the issue.   Each legislative session ends without the issue being addressed.  Are they hoping it will go away or that it will eventually become the next politician’s problem?  Are they counting on the fact that we are unaware of how dire the situation is?

It is time that we hold our elected officials responsible.  Politicians who are looking at being elected as a career opportunity and a way to further their own personal interests must go.  It is obvious that many of our elected officials have lost sight of the fact that government should be of the people, by the people and for the people. Cushy retirement plans for legislators illustrate how far removed our state government has gotten from the people they claim to serve.
