We're hearing a few rumblings from sources that asked not to be named about Newt Gingrich considering dropping out of the race for the GOP nomination. Folks might remember that StuffedSuits.com reported Rick Perry dropping out 24 hours before anybody else did. (that's right CNN, you were not the "as first reported by" source)

Newt has to be seeing the conservative movement going to Santorum in mass quantities and if he is truly committed to beating Romney, dropping out and endorsing Rick Santorum would be the only way to do that. Not only is Santorum polling very well against Romney with Newt in the race, Rick Santorum is the only candidate beating Barack Obama in polling nationwide

If Gingrich is a "real, true" friend to Rick as he says, he will drop and endorse Rick and begin helping out the party to nominate a TRUE Conservative. IF you would like to join a real grassroots FB group for Rick Santorum... go to CONSERVATIVES FOR SANTORUM and check us out. Two ladies started this 4 weeks ago and have already garnered 200 members throughout the USA. We have a great networking forum with very valuable information. You can friend me... KathyCain and I will put you in. We strive to run this group as Rick runs his campaign, truthful, open, honest. NO BOTS allowed! One tried to get in and was booted within one hour. We are based in Alabama and also have the state group. GAME ON!!! Let us take our great country back and restore it, where it belongs to the people!

I think he is seeing the writing on the wall. He has consistently polled lately in last place when put up against Obama. He is currently at the bottom of the heap for at least until Super Tuesday, so for a month he will appear to be in last place. And the chances of him pulling that out on Super Tuesday is small after Santorum's wins that will make him look like one of the front runners for a full month.

Additionally, Newt may be prepared to take his own advice to Rick a few weeks ago when Rick was toward the bottom and Newt was on top, that Santorum should get out of the race to make the way clear or him. Now that the roles are reversed, he may seriously thinking that about himself.

After all, Rick is a friend of his, and Newt does want to defeat Romney. He probably realizes at this point if Romney isn't stopped on Super Tuesday, he will likely be the nominee. But if he gets out now and it gives conservatives time to get behind Rick, Santorum stands a good chance of pulling off that upset with the combined conservative vote. So he may realize if he wants his ultimate goal accomplished, it can only happen if he gets out.

I've known this a long time, but wasn't sure Newt would do that or bullheadedly stay in the race to the bitter end as he has pledged to do thus far. So this is good news if this is what he decides to do. It could nail the coffin shut on Romney.
