The Punk Posse This list we've so aptly named the "Punk Posse" is a roundup of those that have a negative impact on politics, especially in the Republican Party in South Carolina. We'll be releasing a list of the Boss Hawgs within the next couple of weeks and will be adding various other hacks to this list. The list will be ever-expanding as new information comes available Those listed below will be the focus of upcoming individual articles with much more information in regards to the influence they have and the methods they use to push that influence. Wesley Donehue
Wesley plays a number of roles within the SC political realm. He handles communications for the SC Senate Caucus, manages a few campaigns during the election season, serves in some capacity with the state GOP and drinks beer with Democrat Phil Bailey on Pub Politics. Using the means at his disposal and his access, Wesley likes to portray himself as a mover and shaker in the Republican party. He answers to Senate Leadership, particularly Harvey Peeler, but rumor has it McConnell and Leatherman yank his chain pretty hard as well. His handler, SC Senator Jake Knotts (see Boss Hawgs), according to a number of sources, uses Wes to go after various "opponents", mainly in the Republican party. |
|
Donehue was supposedly instrumental in the unproven Haley sex scandal involving Will Folks, and word is he was one of the "big, high-powered scary operatives" that so terrified Folks that he felt like he had to spill his fantasy about Governor Haley. According to sources, Folks and Donehue were supposedly taking cash for doing the bidding of Knottzi. Our opinion is that Wesley Donehue uses his platforms as a means of going after the enemies of the Boss Hawgs in the state Senate, most notably Glenn McConnell and Hugh Leatherman. As for influence, anyone tuning in to his Pub Politics episodes can see those watching number in the single digits. Having a bar as the backdrop allows him to use the patrons as a "pretend" audience. Many of you will remember Jake Knotts making the "raghead" comment directed at Nikki Haley. Donehue claimed various reasons for not publishing the episode (stream going in and out, forgot to hit record, etc...) before finally just admitting he would not publish it. Wes is rumored to be unstable, among other things, but that's neither here nor there, of course. What we do know is that he is paid a lot of money by Senate Leadership. Question is, who funds the pot from which they pay him. GOP activists who think their money is used to elect good conservatives? Corporations and special interests? Wonder how all those folks feel about a loose cannon who slings mud all day (though he throws like a girl, if you ask us) on their behalf? Yeah, Wes is a real professional. |

Will Folks
The so-called "Sic", as his audience of college kids likes to refer to him is running neck and neck with Robert Cahaly as the political sleazebag of South Carolina. Will likes to be seen as a "true believer" who "drives the policy debate," but he's really just a hired gun for a lot of special interests, political operatives and lobbyist-consultants, both in-state and out, according to sources. Folks, prior to the primary, made some national news by claiming he had innappropriate relations with the current SC Governor. |
|
As the guy behind Fitsnews.com, Folks uses his blog to lambast those he's taken an intense dislike to. A recent study of third party sources reveal that his so-called influential blog uses porn and celebrity search engine popularity to drive traffic to his site which in turn misleads many into believing they can reach the masses by advertising there or getting Folks to pump up their clients and endorse their candidates. As some allege, the Fitsnew Floundering Editor uses his blog posting, supposed opinion pieces, to build up or tear down various individuals or entities, all the while collecting money to post those "opinions". Unlike the rest of the people on this list -- who at least admit they get paid to smear people -- Folks is seriously trying to pass himself off as some kind of white knight who does what he does for the cause. Just how much Folks makes on his "cash-for-trash" business is a matter of debate among sources, but all agree he's paid thousands of dollars to attack those who get in the way of his benefactors. |

Robert Cahaly
This author's personal opinion is that the sleazebag of the 2010 election season is Cahaly, hands-down. Cahaly, who runs Bonnie Blue and Gadsden and Greene Strategies, handled Ken Ard's campaign for Lt Governor. You might notice the picture of Cahaly to the left looks like a mugshot. That's because it is. Cahaly was arrested and charged with illegal campaign practices during the campaign season last year and is likely, according to one tip we've received, using a bit of blackmail to assure he isn't convicted. These charges are similar to those that surfaced in Kansas involving a campaign Cahaly was handling some time back. |
|
Cahaly coaxed Ken Ard into spending all of his personal money (his home was put on the market) and borrowing more to spend nearly $1 million to defeat Bill Connor in the Lite Gov race. (for a $46k per year job). Numerous accusations surfaced during the campaign including Cahaly attempting to pay military personal for bad information on Connor. Reportedly, it was Cahaly who was hired by Speaker Bobby Harrell to make sketchy robo-calls last year against Ralph Norman. If that's the case, then who paid Cahaly to make those calls? Was it the House Republican Caucus? Seems like contributors to the Grand Old' Party machine might deserve answers about the folks on the various payrolls... |

Preston Grisham
Gregory Brown's campaign in the democrat primary vs King James Clyburn paid Stonewall Strategies nearly $24,000 for "marketing" and "marketing materials," according to his 2010 campaign finance reports. The firm is run by former Joe Wilson aide Preston Grisham. |
| Grisham a few years back also created the blog Palmetto Voice to blackmail Rick Quinn, a candidate for state Treasurer. (per a crying confession by Grisham) |
Jay (JW) Ragley
Ragley bragged about hiring a private investigator to take down Kelly Payne in the school superintendent primary last year. I like Mick Zais but he got his hands filthy on this one. Ragley's methods seem to imitate those used by Rod Shealy and Robert Cahaly.
